Men's Water Polo Rule the Weekend

Mission Viejo, Calif. - Golden West water polo finished a key weekend, as their regular season schedule winds down with 5 wins over 3 game days. Golden West (15-1, 3-0) traveled to Riverside Wednesday and brought home a 13-8 victory over the Tigers. The GWC Men's team has held an impressive long time conference record, maintaining an undefeated title in OEC play since 2009.

Rustlers hit the road again Friday, traveling to Saddleback College for a 2-day Championship tournament featuring some of the top teams in the state.  At the end of the first day, the men ended up with a 15-5 win over Cuesta, followed up with a 14-4 victory over conference opponent Riverside City College.

Saturday, as Golden West advanced into the Championship seed, the Rustlers face-offed with their local rivals LBCC for a third time this season.  Defense was dialed in on this game, as Golden West headed in the 4th quarter with a solid 11-2 lead. Long Beach City did their best to rally back, but failed in the end, with a final score of 13-10.  The last game of the tournament came down to the two southern California power house teams, and Los Angles Valley turned up the competition.  A back and forth game led to several lead changes, forcing the game into overtime, with a hard earned 10-8 .

Looking ahead, Golden West will host long time conference challenger Orange Coast College in a critical OEC game.  The men take the water at 4:00pm in Rustler water.
