Rustlers Dominate OEC Matchup Over Tigers

Golden West College men's water polo team delivered a commanding performance against Riverside City College, securing a dominant 17-6 win at home.

First Quarter: Rustlers Set the Tone

Golden West wasted no time asserting themselves, with Jack Wright opening the scoring just 53 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal. The Rustlers continued their offensive surge with goals from Michael Rodgers, Tomas De Luca, and Joao Goncalves, building a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Riverside struggled to find their rhythm, held scoreless through the opening period.

Second Quarter: Golden West's Offensive Onslaught

The Rustlers continued their dominance in the second quarter, adding six more goals to their tally. Tal Fotin and Jack Wright each scored, while Michael Rodgers found the net again with help from De Luca. By the halfway point, Golden West had pushed the score to 10-1. Riverside's lone goal in the quarter came from Finn Shelbourne, but the team found themselves in a deep hole, down by nine goals at the break.

Third Quarter: Riverside Fights Back, but Golden West Remains Unstoppable

Riverside showed signs of life in the third quarter, with Luke Bills scoring twice, assisted by Finn Shelbourne and Lennon Franklin. However, Golden West matched them with five goals of their own, including impressive strikes from Gavin Little, Timothy Lonnqvist, and Gonçalo Silva. Zach Bishop and Daigo Fujita also contributed, ensuring the Rustlers maintained their overwhelming lead at 15-3 heading into the final period.

Fourth Quarter: Rustlers Close It Out

Despite Riverside managing to score three goals in the final quarter, with contributions from Bills, Darian Thompson, and Davis DeAnda, Golden West remained in control. Jacob Stoddard and Dan Ibbotson each added goals for the Rustlers, rounding off the scoring at 17-6 and sealing the victory.

On defense, the Rustlers' goalkeeping was stellar, with Boston Frost, Pablo Souza, and Jose Antonio Silva combining for 16 saves.
