Tigers Too Much For The Rustlers

Riverside, Calif. - Scoring in each of the first four innings, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers blanked the visiting Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers, 10-0, in mercy rule-shortened, five-inning Orange Empire Conference (OEC) women's fastpitch softball game at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).

Riverside (16-9, 9-3, second place) scored early and often with two runs in each of the first two innings and then capping the scoring with a five-run fourth.

Golden West (7-13, 4-9) was officially no-hitted. With two outs in the top of the fifth, a scoring ruling for pinch-hitter Trecia Saldana on a bunt play toward third base was originally ruled a single, but later changed to a fielding error.

RCC starting sophomore RHP Nichole Zink (Corona / Roosevelt HS) went the distance and allowed one walk while striking out eight on only 58 pitches (43 strikes) to improve to 10-4. Her counterpart, GWC freshman RHP Ciera Henson (Garden Grove / Pacifica HS) also went the distance (4.0 innings) and allowed ten runs (all earned) on seven hits with seven walks with zero strikeouts. Henson's record is 1-1.

Golden West will next be in action on Thursday, March 29, when it hosts the Cypress College Chargers in a 3 p.m. OEC first pitch.
