Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Rustler's (6-28, 1-16) attacked the Orange Coast College Pirates (8-19, 6-10) with a couple of cannons but ultimately walked the plank as the Pirates won 9-2.
OCC got on the scoreboard right away in the top of the 1st inning on 2 hits and 1 error by the Rustlers to take a 2-0 lead. Rustlers SP Adriana Barrera(3-19) settled down in the 2nd inning recording a strikeout, ground out, and fly ball out to left field. OCC's offense scored another run in the top of the 3rd inning on 3 hits to extend their lead to 3-0.
Golden West finally got one of their bombs to damage the Pirates ship with a big 2-run homerun by Taylor Clinkaberry (1 for 2, 2 RBI's, 1BB, 1 run scored) in the bottom of the 4th inning to cut the lead to 5-2.
Both teams would then be held at bay for the 5th and 6th innings with only 1 hit a piece until the Pirates would pull away for good in the top of the 7th inning scoring 4 runs to put the game out of reach 9-2. The feisty Rustlers wouldn't go down quietly in the bottom of the frame though, as they would load the bases before Domonique Romero (0 for 3, 1 run scored, 1BB) hit a fly ball out to CF to end the game.
Next: With only 2 regular season games left, the Rustlers will host Riverside City College Tigers on Friday 4/22 @6pm. It will be the last home game for the Sophomores so come out and support!
