Softball: Terrones Tallies Four Hits as the Offense Comes out at Night

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Rustler softball team pounded 18 hits as five players record multi-hit games in a 10-7 win over Rio Hondo College Wednesday night.

Sophomore catcher Jenna Terrones led the team offensively as she went a perfect four for four at the plate with an RBI and run scored. Maddy Schicker and Isabella Ramirez stayed hot with the bats as they each recorded three hits apiece and Janelle Watson led all offensive players with three runs batted in to go along with her two hits.

After Rio Hondo took an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, Golden West responded scoring two runs of their own thanks to Watson's RBI ground out and a Terrones' RBI triple. The Rustler's offense stayed hot in the bottom of the second inning as they were able to plate another four runs to take a sizable 6-1 lead. The third inning was more of the same for Golden West as they were able to tack on two more runs as they capitalized on a couple of errors to extend their lead, 8-1.

The Roadrunners wouldn't go down quietly, they were able to knock out starting pitcher Jennifer Eberhardt in the fifth inning as they batted around while scoring four runs on five hits to cut into the lead, 8-5. Rio Hondo made it a one run ball game in the top of the sixth as they took advantage of an error and used a sacrifice fly to plate two more runs. But the resiliency of the Rustler offense came through with two huge insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to ensure the 10-7 victory. Watson sparked the offense in the bottom of the sixth with a lead off double and Schicker would smash a base hit that scored Watson from second base. A couple batter's later and Cami Cohen would smack an RBI single to add the second insurance run.

NEXT: Golden West will host Imperial Valley College Wednesday, February 7th at 12pm.
