Softball: Schicker Stays Hot as the Comeback Falls Short

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Freshman third baseman Maddy Schicker stays hot in the tough loss to Imperial Valley College(IVC) as she tallied another three hits to raise her batting average to .632.

The offense came out swinging as they were able to record four hits in the first two innings but couldn't drive the runners in as they left all four baserunners stranded. IVC on the other hand took advantage of early opportunities as they were able to score six runs in the first two innings on six hits to take an early 6-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Cami Cohen would settle into a groove for the Rustlers after the rocky start and throw two scoreless innings in the third and fourth to help the offense catch up scoring runs. In the third inning Schicker came through with an RBI single that scored Alexa Reyes who started the inning with a walk. Then in the fourth inning Golden West's offense was able to push across two more runs to cut the lead in half at 6-3. Thanks to a couple of errors and a double steal call, Janelle Watson was able to come through and smash a two RBI single to left center field.

Schicker continued to stay perfect at the plate as she led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a double. Two batters later Jennifer Eberhardt would squeeze a single just past the shortstops out stretched glove to score Schicker and make it a 6-4 game. Unfortunately, the Rustler's were held hitless the rest of the way and IVC was able to score two more runs to make the final score 8-4.

NEXT: Golden West will host San Bernardino Valley College Friday, February 8th for a doubleheader starting at 1pm. Game 2 will start approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of game 1.
