Softball: Three Rustlers Record Multi-Hit Game in Loss to Defending State Champs

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Alyssa Aragon, Rheanna Davis, and Janelle Watson each recorded two hits in a loss to the number one ranked team in the CCCAA state rankings, Cypress College Chargers, 14-2.

Starting pitcher Cami Cohen came out in the first two innings and kept the Chargers offense off balance, holding them to one hit through the first seven batters. However, the third inning was a different story as Cohen walked a couple batters and surrendered five runs on three hits to trail 5-0 heading into the bottom of the third. The Rustler's offense answered as Cohen led off with a single and Isabella Ramirez followed with a ground out to second base advancing Cohen into scoring position. That's when Aragon smacked a single to center field scoring Cohen from second and cutting into the lead 5-1.

The Chargers started the fourth inning with back to back homeruns and continued to get runners on and score two more runs to take a commanding 9-1 lead heading into the fifth inning. The Rustlers were able to score a run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to stay out of a mercy rule loss and play a full seven innings while not being intimidated by the best team in the state. Cypress was able to score five more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach at 14-2.
