Softball: Burton Smacks Walk-Off Double in Home Opener

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West softball team played their inaugural regular season home game at their new stadium this afternoon against the Grossmont College Griffins. On a day where the Rustlers honored the late Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli and his family with a pregame moment of silence and school president Tim McGrath threw out an honorary first pitch, it was only fitting that the Rustlers won in dramatic fashion.

The Griffins were the first team to get on the scoreboard putting up three runs in the top of the 4th. However, that would be all they scored as pitcher Michelle Sheedy would come in as relief and not surrender another run. The Rustlers would chip away at the lead scoring one run in the 4th, 5th and 6th inning to tie the game at 3-3 before Madalyn Burton would hit a game winning walk off double in the bottom of the 7th!

With the Rustlers 4-3 win over the Griffins they improve to 2-1 on the season. Their next game will be a double header Saturday February 8th at golden west against San Diego and Moorpark.
