Softball: Burton Throws Gem in Game One Win as Rustler Split DH

Huntington, Calif. - Golden West hosted Moorpark Saturday for a long day of Softball playing a doubleheader. The teams split the games as Golden West won game one 7-1 and Moorpark won game two 15-8.

Game 1

The Rustlers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game one. The offense scored two runs in the first inning and they never looked back. Golden West scored three more runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth. The offensive attack was led by right fielder Kaylee Hammond who had three hits and two RBI's, Jasmine Vasquez also contributed with two RBI's. However, it was pitcher Kennedy Burton who was the real difference maker in this one. She pitched a complete game only allowing one run on four hits while only walking one batter, completely shutting down the Moorpark offense as the Rustlers would win by a score of 7-1.

Game 2

Game two told a different story for the Rustlers as the pitching couldn't hit its stride. The Rustlers used four different pitchers throughout the game who combined to give up 25 hits, and 15 runs. The Rustler offense kept them in the game by scoring eight runs in the first three innings. The game was tied 8-8 after the fourth inning but a big inning by Moorpark where they scored five runs became too much for Golden West to overcome as they would go on to lose 15-8.

They rustlers are now 3-2 on the season, their next game will be 2:00pm February 12th at Saddleback College as they look to keep a winning record.
