Softball: Drops Home Doubleheader to the Pirates

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West College softball went 0-2 in their double header against Orange Coast College at home on Friday. The Rustlers increase their losing streak to 11 and stand 2-13 in Orange Empire play.

Game One

Coming off three straight mercy losses, Golden West College lost a close game to OCC, 2-1.

Despite playing an errorless game, the Rustlers were able to find one scoring opportunity off of their five hits and two defensive errors by the Pirates.

Aolani Sua put up the only run for the Rustlers with a triple to left center to score Isabella Green in early innings.

Sennie Viramontes pitched all seven innings, earning two runs off 10 hits. Earning the 2-1 loss, Viramontes is now 5-8 on the season.

Game Two

Golden West surrendered their lead in game two, falling to Orange Coast 9-4.

The Rustlers went into the game striving to win innings right off the bat, which they did. Green led off with a walk and stole second base. She advanced to third on a wild pitch before Sua hit an RBI single to right field, giving the Rustlers a 1-0 lead.

The Rustlers loaded the bases quickly in the third inning with no outs. Orla Keys drove in Brooklyn Gregory with a single to right center to grab a 2-0 lead.

A 1-2-3 double play involving Sua, Makayla Weiser and Keys, lit a fire for the Rustlers and silenced OCC from tacking on any runs in the top of the fourth.

The game looked to be going in the Rustlers favor until the Pirates put up seven runs in the sixth inning. OCC's offense got a hold of Sua's arsenal, earning six RBIs off a triple, double and single. They were able to add their eighth run to the board with another base hit before Brooklyn Gregory caught a fly ball in left field to end the inning. Before the unravel, Sua and the Rustler defense held the Pirates to one run through five innings.

The Rustlers were not able to secure a victory over the Pirates who made three errors in game two. They left a total of 13 runners on base and watched their much-needed lead slip away.

Sua started the game for the Rustlers, facing 34 batters through five and two-thirds innings. Sua left the game with 15 hits, eight runs, four earned runs, a walk and a punch out. Viramontes returned to the circle, finishing the game with two hits and an earned run. Sua's record stands 3-9 in the circle.

The Rustlers look to snap their losing streak at home against Santiago Canyon on Monday at 3:30 p.m. PT.
