Golden West Gets a Huge Win Over Santa Monica

Huntington Beach, CA - Golden West softball (4-2) mercied the Santa Monica Corsairs (0-6) in five innings, 16-2. 

It was a gorgeous day in Huntington Beach as the Rustlers welcomed the Corsairs for one more game before the team entered conference play. Golden West came out swinging as the team tallied six runs in the first inning alone. Allyssa DeMayo scored the first run as she singled in Sofia Herrera. Desyree Arizmendi scored later in the inning from a passed ball and Orla Keys crossed home off of a Mia Duda single. Duda came in to score on a bases loaded walk and Natalie Tonche touched home plate on a catcher's interference, 6-0. 

In the second, the Rustlers plated one run from a Duda RBI knock that scored Keys, 7-0. For the third, Golden West found three more runs from two hits. Arizmendi doubled in two RBIs and Keys singled in one, 10-0. Santa Monica earned two runs on the scoreboard to make  it an eight run game, 10-2. The mercy was still in play but the Rustlers added six runs of insurance in the bottom of the fourth. 

Shelby Jacobz tripled to the wall for an RBI and DeMayo doubled in Jacobz, 12-2. Maya Magadaleno singled in a run and Keys doubled in Magdaleno, 14-2. To finish the scoring, Makayla Bandaruk reached first on an error and Maddie Kistler tripled in the final run, 16-2. Golden West would surrender their third out on the base paths to end the offense and close the game in the bottom of the fifth, 16-2.

Keys had an incredible day for the Rustlers as she went 4-4 with three runs and two RBIs. A. DeMayo knocked two hits in her four plate appearances for two runs scored and two RBIs. Duda also laced two hits with a run scored and two RBIs. Tonche started the game for 3.0 frames pitched with two strikeouts and Kistler relieved for 1.2 innings and two strikeouts. Magadaleno closed out the game for the final out. The Rustlers improve to 4-2 as the team heads into Orange Empire Conference competition.  

UP NEXT: The Rustlers will be on the road for their next matchup as conference play begins at Fullerton College on Tuesday, March 5th. First pitch will be at 3pm.
