Golden West Athletics have named Mike Willey as the new Head Softball Coach for the Rustlers heading into the 2021-22 season.

A former Rustler himself, Coach Willey brings over 30 years of coaching experience, with more than 20 years on the softball field.  He joins the program in conjunction with his current academic roles at Savanna High School in Anaheim, CA.

"I am proud and excited to take over the Golden West College Softball program," Willey said. "As an alumni, I aim to build a positive and productive culture which will include student athletes striving to further their journey in the sport, as well as being successful both athletically and academically.  Hard work, while learning and having fun will be paramount in our vision and success."

Coach Willey has established himself as one of the most respected high school coaches in Orange County.  With an overall record of 396-150-1, 15 consecutive Orange League Championships, 2014 O.C. Coach of the Year, 12-time Orange League Coach of the Year, along with a career 78 game league winning streak. He recently spent 2 seasons working with Cypress College Softball, where they clinched the Orange Empire Conference Championship and tournament titles. Coach Willey also serves on a variety of advisory boards including Women in Sports Association and the Orange County Softball Coaches Association.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Willey to Golden West," said Golden West Athletic Director Danny Johnson. "His success among the high school ranks as well as his leadership within the community will put Golden West on the map as we begin to rebuild our program."
