W Basketball: Notches First Home Win in Convincing Fashion in New Era

Huntington Beach, Calif. - A trio of Rustlers tallied double digits in points as Golden West notches their first home victory in 18 years over Copper Mountain 70-54. 

Reyna McMorris chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds in 20 mintues of work, Jackie Navarro netted 10 points with two steals, and Kimberly Mancillas led the charge for Golden West with 12 points. 

Golden West came out a little sluggish as they were down 9-0 within the first four minutes of the game but cut the lead to eight at the end of the first quarter 18-10. Then a 3-pointer from Lilliana Parreno to open the second quarter sparked some life in the Rustlers offensive attack. The offense went on a 22-4 run to take the lead for good with a comfortable 41-29 halftime lead. 

The Rustlers led by as much as 17 points during the third and fourth quarters until the turnover bug hit early in the fourth quarter which allowed Copper Mountain to pull within 11 points. After a timeout by Golden West, the team settled down and controlled the ball till the final buzzer and victory. Its the Rustlers second win on the season as they close out their non-conference play with three more games.
