Golden West Scores 98 in Home Opener Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West women's basketball (2-0, 0-0 OEC) dominated in their home opener against the College of the Desert Roadrunners (0-5, 0-0 IEAC). 

The Rustlers opened their season on November 2nd with a huge victory over Compton, 91-36. After a near two week break, Golden West welcomed Desert for their first home game of the season. Early on, it was a battle for possession and takeaways. Each side profited from their opponents mistakes and mishaps. Golden West slowly took a lead as the team found themselves up nine at the end of the first frame, 19-8. 

Rebounds continued to be a key aspect of the matchup that dictated time of possession. Drawn fouls helped both squads to collect points on the scoreboard. Clean passes made for well executed ball control and more opportunities for shots. Golden West worked to extend their lead in the second quarter and went up by 30 points. By the end of the first half, the Rustlers were on top of the Roadrunners, 43-15.  

It was more of the same for the second half as the home team controlled the pace of play. Points came from up and down the lineup as the Rustlers shared the scoring. With the third quarter finished, Golden West held a huge edge, 72-27. The home team finished off their home opener victory with an impressive score, 98-36. Kayla Terry was the team's leading scorer as she earned a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Princess McCauley also earned a double-double with her 24 points scored and led the Rustlers in rebounds with 13. Golden West won their second consecutive game to start the season 2-0.
