Rustlers Score 100 Points for the Second Time this Season

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West women's basketball (9-4, 0-0 OEC) continues winning streak with a three digit scoreboard victory over the Oxnard Condors (2-10, 0-0 WSC), 102-56.

In a remarkable display of resilience and teamwork, the Golden West Rustlers, despite suiting up only eight players with just five at full health, delivered an astounding performance against the Oxnard Condors. The Rustlers' triumph was marked by a series of individual heroics and a collective effort that saw them emerge with a 102-56 win, moving their season record to 9-4, while the Condors fell to 2-10.

The game commenced with Gizelle Carreto of Oxnard making a significant impact, scoring 12 points. However, Golden West responded vigorously. Despite the challenges – Kim Rivera returning from flu, Princess McCulley playing with a sprained finger, and Jessiah Ramirez recovering from a sprained ankle – the Rustlers closed out the quarter with a 9-2 run. This late surge saw them finish the quarter ahead 19-16, with McCulley's impressive 10 points keeping them in contention.

The second quarter belonged entirely to Golden West. Restricting Carreto to just three points, the Rustlers' offense exploded for a 30-6 quarter. Kayla Terry was phenomenal, scoring 19 points in the quarter alone, 16 of which came off offensive rebound putbacks. This incredible performance helped the Rustlers dominate in second-chance points and end the half with a commanding 53-22 lead.

The third quarter saw a spirited effort from Oxnard, led by Daisy Ramos and Faith Stockton, who each scored 11 points. However, Terry continued her impressive performance, adding 13 points and bringing her game total to 37.

In the final quarter, Golden West closed out the game strongly, outscoring Oxnard 25-8. This dominant quarter sealed a remarkable 102-56 victory. The Rustlers' offensive prowess was on full display, with three players – Ty Adams (19 points), McCauley (27 points), and Terry (43 points) – finishing in double digits. Terry's 43 points marked the fifth-highest single-game scoring in school history. The Rustlers again lead the state of California averaging 82.1 PPG.

After a slow start, the Rustlers dominated the boards, out rebounding the Condors 67-30. Terry, Adams, and Lauren Jordan each recorded double-digit rebounds. Additionally, Golden West excelled in ball distribution, amassing 26 assists, showcasing their teamwork and unselfish play.

This victory stands as a testament to the Rustlers' determination and ability to overcome adversity. Despite a diminished bench, which contributed just two points, the team's never say die spirit was the driving force behind this emphatic win. The Rustlers' next challenge will be to maintain this momentum and continue their ascent as a formidable force in college basketball as they travel to LA Harbor.

UP NEXT: Golden West will be on the road for their next matchup against LA Harbor on Thursday, January 4th. Tip off will be at 6pm.
