Golden West Season Sweeps Saddleback in Overtime

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West women's basketball (12-10, 2-6 OEC) season swept the Saddleback Bobcats (6-15, 0-8 OEC) on Friday night, 81-71.  

The Rustlers and the Bobcats met for their second and final game of the season hosted at Golden West College. Back on January 10th, the Rustlers traveled to Saddleback and defeated the Bobcats, 80-69. Their matchup Friday night was a thriller as both sides went back and forth with big plays. At the end of the first frame, Saddleback found themselves in the lead by a point, 15-16. 

By halftime, the Rustlers would repeat their first quarter scoring habits with 15 points but remain down, 30-34.  Golden West would win their first quarter of the night in the third frame as they outsourced Saddleback 14-16. Down at the start of the final regulation quarter, the home team looked to make up for their deficit and tie the game. Kayla Terry came in clutch late making up more than half of the team's fourth quarter points with ten scored. 

At the end of regulation, the two teams were tied at 65 apiece. In overtime, the Rustlers jumped out ahead quickly and did not allow the Bobcats a lead. Terry and Ty Adams made it a five point game from layups and jump shots. Golden West separated by double digits and outlasted Saddleback to earn the victory, 81-71. Terry led the scoring for the Rustlers and earned a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Second in points scored was Makayla Heffernan with 14 points and Loaren Jordan had the most rebounds with 11. Golden West won their second conference game and 12th matchup overall.
