Women's Soccer Blanked Lasers

Irvine, Calif - Irvine Valley's women's soccer team played a strong second half, but the Lasers couldn't break through with a goal and fell to Golden West, 4-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match at home on Friday.

Golden West scored two goals in each half to improve its record to 8-7-1 overall and 6-4-1 in conference. The Rustlers remained in fourth place in the conference standings.  While Irvine Valley is still looking for its first conference victory. The Lasers fell to 2-10-1 overall and 0-8-2 in conference.

Golden West opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Katie Fosmire found the back of the net on a ball played through by Leezett Del Toro.  The Rustlers added to their lead just before halftime. Kathleen Schultz scored on a pass from Candice Holt.

Golden West led, 2-0, at the break.

Irvine Valley played inspired soccer in the second half. The Lasers continually pushed forward and had 11 shots on goal.  But they hit the post twice with shots – one by Desirae Santana early in the half and then by Wendy Rendon late in the game.  Irvine Vally had one more oppurtunity by Ruriko Yoshimura, but her shot was saved near post by Golden West keeper Olivia Bedard.

Golden West made it a 3-0 game in the 75th minute when Alina Aviles scored on a left-footed shot off an assist from Daisy Gutierrez. And the Rustlers capped their scoring in the 82nd minute with a goal by Kahri Golden from Holt.
