Rustlers Hold Off Dons in a 3-2 Win

SANTA ANA – Rustlers took advantage early and held off to defeat Santa Ana 3-2. With the win, Rustlers improve to 7-4-3 overall and 6-2-1 in conference while the loss drops the Dons to 2-11-1 on the season and 0-8-1 in conference.

Golden West opened scoring in the 12th minute when Angela Martinez sent a long pass from nearly midfield over the top of the Dons defense and into the box. The pass found Jenifer Munoz who beat the Dons keeper one-on-one for the goal

But the Dons would come back in the 26th minute to tie the match at 1-1. After pushing into the box, Michelle Zepeda fired a shot on goal that was saved by Olivia Bedard. However, the rebound was not controlled and, as the ball rolled near the goal, Tiffany Martinez was able to take a quick shot into the empty net for the equalizer.

After the team's went into the half tied at 1-1, the Rustlers didn't waste much time to score the go-ahead goal. In the 48th minute, Munoz sent a free kick into the box that found Kahri Golden who was able to shoot and score. Golden would put the Rustlers up 3-1 in the 60th minute when she scored on an assist from Daisy Gutierrez.

The Dons made a late push with Kristina Alatorre on a header off a free kick from Martinez in the 84th minute. However, the Dons were only able to manage one more shot in the final six minutes.

Santa Ana's goalkeeper, Priscilla Suarez made three saves in goal for the Dons while allowing all three goals in 90 minutes. Her counterpart, Olivia Bedard, made four saves in 90 minutes with two goals allowed.
