Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West (1-1-2, 0-1) women's soccer team fell 1-0 in their Orange Empire Conference opener to Cypress (2-3, 1-0).

In an intense match, the first half provided plenty of offensive opportunities for both teams to score but neither could capitalize. The Rustlers had two great looks off of corner kicks, unfortunatley, the Cypress goalkeeper was able to punch the ball out both times.

The second half saw the Rustler defense working hard as they allowed only one shot on goal against GW's goalkeeper Taylor Vanis. That one goal just happened to be the lone goal scored in the game while in the 73rd minute from a corner kick. The Rustler offense applied pressure late with a free kick from Cindy Ramirez just outside the 18yd box but it sailed high and wide.

Next: Golden West will host Fullerton College Friday, September 15th at 3pm.
