W Soccer: Offense Gets Back on Track in Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Rustler women's soccer team got back on track with a lopsided 4-0 win over the Jets.

Golden West(2-1) got back to it's scoring ways at home as they netted two goals in each half en route to their second shutout win of the season. Ana Sofia Rodriguez scored the first goal of the match in the 38th minute when Breanna Sandoval controlled the ball just inside the 18yd box and flicked the ball to an open Rodriguez, to take the lead 1-0. Five minutes later, Sam Torres assisted on a perfectly placed goal kick by Rachel McClure to the upper right corner of the goal to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

McClure looked to be on her way to netting her second goal of the game in the second half but was taken down from behind by a San Diego Miramar (0-2) defender to award the Rustler's with a penatly kick. Courtney Allard converted the penaly kick by going bottom right just off the finger tips of the Jets goalkeeper's finger tips to extend the lead 3-0. Torres would find herself in the right place at the right time as she netted the games final goal in the 73rd minute off a ball that hit the crossbar and rebounded right to her.

The Rustler offense dominated the time of possession and the defense held strong has they allowed nine shots and five on goal.

NEXT: Golden West will travel down to Palomar College on Friday, September 7th for a 3:15PM start.
