W Soccer: McClure's Late Goal Salvages a Tie

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West women's soccer team was able to force a tie in a match that they controlled the pace of play. 

Sophomore Rachel McClure scored in the 86th minute to tie the match against Santa Ana College 2-2. The Rustlers controlled the pace of play and had a ton opportunities score as they tallied 18 shots with 16 on goal. 

Santa Ana scored early in the first half to take an early 1-0 lead. Sam Torres netted her fifth goal for the Rustlers in the 38th minute off a corner kick by Kaylin Cruz to tie the match 1-1 at the half. 

Keeping with the first half theme, Santa Ana scored within the first 10 minutes of play in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. McClure added the equalizer to force the 2-2 tie to keep Golden West unbeaten in Orange Empire conference play. 

Freshman Breanna Sandoval led the Rustlers with five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Emma Leanos allowed two goals but recorded three saves. 

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday, October 2nd for a 3pm kickoff.
