W Soccer: Torres and Cruz Lift Rustlers to Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. - In a battle for second place in the Orange Empire Conference, #15 ranked Golden West was able to comeback and beat the Chargers as Sam Torres and Kaylin Cruz each net a second half goal.

The Chargers seemed to be in control of match through the first 49 minutes of play as the Rustlers only had one shot attempt and gave up its only goal mid way through the first half. It was the second half that proved to be successful for Golden West's offense as they made the most of their four shots by scoring on two of them. Sam Torres was able to tie the game at 1-1 on a crossing pass by Kaylin Cruz in the 50th minute.

Golden West's offense stayed aggressive and pressured the Cypress defense and it paid off in the 73rd minute when Kaylin Cruz netted the eventual game winner off a freekick opportunity. The win put the Rustlers in sole possession of second place in the Orange Empire Conference behind the undefeated and #3 ranked Santiago Canyon College.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Fullerton College Tuesday, October 9th for a 3pm kickoff.
