Bakersfield, Calif. - Golden West College went on the road to Bakersfield College on Thursday afternoon in a play-in game to the CCCAA Women's Soccer State Playoffs and came away with historic 1-0 win in OT.
Throughout both halves neither team was able to find the back of the net to put points on the board. At the end of regulation the score remained tied at 0-0, which meant overtime. OT rules indicate two 15-minute non-sudden death periods are played and then, if still scoreless, penalties.
Just into the 115th minute of the game (with 5 minutes to play) the Rustlers Courtney Allard (assisted by Faith Ells) netted a shot over Bakersfield's goalkeepers head that rolled into the goal to put the Rustlers ahead, 1-0. At the final whistle, minutes later, Golden West claimed the victory to advance into the playoffs.
Next: Golden West will travel to OEC conference foe and the #2 seeded Santiago Canyon College on Saturday, November 17th for a 2pm kickoff.
