W Soccer: Rodriguez Nets Two Goals in Shut out Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. - It was a home debut showcase for freshman forward, Jackie Rodriguez, as she netted a pair of goals in Golden West's shutout home opening win over the LA Valley Monarchs, 2-0.

Rodriguez gave the Rustlers (1-1) the early lead with a goal in the 14th minute from just inside the 18-yard box from a nice touch pass served up by Natalie Moreno. Golden West had a few more good looks at goal in the first half but could find the back of the net.

Chrystine Tapia set up Rodriguez's second goal of the match in the 67th minute to extend the Rustler lead to 2-0. Again, the offense kept up the pressure with several shots off the crossbar but couldn't build a bigger lead.

The goalkeeping duo of Dominique Valadez (0 saves) and Ashlee Garcia (2 saves) combined for the shutout as the defense did most of the heavy lifting by keeping the Monarchs limited to two shots on goal.

NEXT: Golden West will host Palomar College on Friday, September 6, at 1pm.
