
Huntington Beach, Calif. – Riverside City College won the 2017 Orange Empire Conference Swim Championship Saturday evening with a total of 802 points scored. Orange Coast finished second in the OEC with 712 points.
The championship rounds for the women started with the long 1650 freestyle race. Katya Bujakowsky from Orange Coast finished first with a time of 17:54.23 followed by Cypress's Kayleen Bretz at 8:11.79. Golden West's Rheanna Lawrence captured third place with a finish of 18:34.13.
Samm Crocker from Golden West captured first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.82. Riverside's duo of Jacqueline Johnson and Citlali Salazar rounded out the top three at 54.02 and 54.77.
In the 200 breaststroke, Riverside's Emily Martin had a record breaking swim finishing first with a time 2:27.30. Previous record was set in 2015 by Tori Cree at 2:29.76. Evelyn Wang finished second with a time of 2:34.18 and Orange Coast's Lexi Heyerly finished third at 2:36.60.
The women's 200 butterfly record (Lauren Weins, 2:10.06) was broken when Orange Coast's Sierra Cox finished at 2:09.89. Saddleback's Raselle Chetwynd claimed second at 2:11.82 and Riverside's Serina Prado took third at 2:20.14.
The championships finished with the women's 400-yard free relay going to the 2017 champions Riverside CC and their squad of Emily Martin, Citlali Salazar, Jacqueline Johnson and Mary Myers at 3:36.60. Orange Coast would finish in second place at 3:40.50 and Golden West claimed third at 3:44.97.
