Huntington Beach. Calif. - The Golden West women's swim program finished first to open the season edging out Palomar College, 257 to 253.5.
They got the meet started with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with Amber McCutcheon (back), Cam Greer (breast), Vanessa Cruz (fly), and Rheanna Lawrence (free) in 2:03.36. Lawrence then followed up the relay with a 500 yard freestyle third place finish in 5:37.31.
Cruz finished second in the fourth event of day, the 100 yard fly in 1:03.24 to continue adding crucial points over the field. McCutcheon then earned the women a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.34.
In the 800 free relay, the foursome of Cruz, Greer, Roisin Cunningham, and Mayra Garcia-Cortez scored big points on their way to a second place finish in a time of 8:57.83. Greer was quickly able to recover and swim the fast 50 yard freestyle and finish third in a time of 27.40.
The Rustler's went back the foursome of Cruz, Greer, Lawrence, and McCutcheon to finish third in the 200 yard free relay. Greer than earned her first, first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke finishing in 1:15.83.
Cruz continued to tally up points for the Rustlers with a second place finish in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:22.58. Lawrence then earned her first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle in a solid time of 2:07.25.
The fearsome foursome of Cruz (fly), Greer (breast), Lawrence (free), and McCutcheon (back) struck again with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay at 4:39.42. The 100 yard freestyle is where Golden West bulked up as they were able to finish in the two through four spots behind great swims of Cruz (57.21), Greer (59.55), and Lawrence (1:00.79).
It came down to the final event on the day in the 400 free relay for the Rustler's to seal the victory behind the fearsome foursome of Cruz, Greer, Lawrence, and McCutcheon in 4:04.25.
