Orange Empire Championships - Track and Field

Mission Viejo, Calif. - The Rustlers traveled to Saddleback College on April 27th to compete at the Orange Empire Conference Championships. Golden West College Women's Track and Field Team takes 3rd place at the Orange Empire Conference Championships while the Men's Team takes home 5th.

 

Men:
Nate Simon took 4th in the 400 meters with a blazing time of 49.09 then came back to run a strong anchor leg in the 4x400 meter relay which took 3rd place with 3:19.87.

Ryan Watson ran 10.95 in the 100 meters, placing fifth and advancing him to the Southern California Championships. He also scored points for the men's team in the 200 meters and ran the anchor leg of the 4x100 meter relay.

William Gomez ran the 800 meters for the Rustlers placing 7th with a time of 1:59.06. Jose Garcia did an excellent job in the 10000meter run just missing top 8 by one place. Rogelio Velasquez, Mitchell Jimenez and Jose Garcia all had great performances in the 3000meter steeplechase.

In the throws, Freshman Alex Gutierrez launched the shot put 14.18m, which placed fourth overall. Branden Alcantar took 6th place in the disc with a toss of 43.96m.

The presence of the Rustlers was felt in the jumps with DeAngelo Bonner taking second in the long jump for second year in a row with a jump of 6.90m and placing 7th in the high jump. Freshman teammate Timothy Hutson took 5th in the long jump. Jimmie Davis and Emmett Kellogg grabbed 5th and 6th place in the men's triple jump. Dillon Atchley soared to 2nd place in the pole vault just behind the state leader in the event from Riverside.

 

Women:
Lady Rustler Annalise Weisenburger ran to 8th place in the 100 meters with 13.28, while Jaci Powell placed 1st in the 200 meters with a time of 25.01. Freshman Heather Simpson finished in 2nd place in the 400 meters with an impressive 58.08. Holly Anthony took 6th place in the 100m hurdles and 5th place in the 400m hurdles. Jaci Powell placed 1st in the 100m hurdles as well.

Freshman Arianna Condon ran to a new school record and placed 4th in the 10000m run. Sophomore Amy Calkins scored for the ladies in the 800 meters placing 7th in that event.

Juli Powell set a new conference record in the pole vault and took home 1st place in the event. Her mark of 3.65m is the 3rd best in the state. Jaci Powell managed to take 1st place in the long and triple jump and took 2nd in the high jump.

Freshman Natasha Caldwell dominated the Javelin field easily taking first place. She won with a throw of 41.17meters. Second place was Jaci Powell with 35.67meters.
