Pereyda Finishes Third in 800 and Second in 1500 Meters

The Golden West College women's track and field team turned in a strong collective effort at the 2025 Viking Invitational hosted by Long Beach City College. Several Rustler freshmen made impressive showings across sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and throws.

Track Events:

  • 100 Meters:
    Freshmen Onwua Cairns and Geraldine Miranda competed hard in the sprints, finishing back-to-back with times of 16.30 and 16.33, respectively.

  • 200 Meters:
    Jaden Campuzano led the way in the 200 meters, clocking a solid 29.06 to finish 18th overall. Cairns and Miranda followed, running 33.85 and 33.94, respectively.

  • 800 Meters:
    Lowyn Pereyda continued to shine in middle distance, securing a 3rd place finish with a time of 2:29.84, showing strong consistency in her specialty event.

  • 1500 Meters:
    Pereyda also delivered one of the top performances of the day for Golden West, finishing 2nd overall in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:17.12, adding another standout effort to her season.

  • 100 Hurdles:
    Campuzano excelled in hurdles, capturing 4th place with a time of 17.46 in a strong field.

Field Events:

  • Long Jump:
    Campuzano showed her versatility by placing 8th in the long jump, leaping 4.25m (13' 11.5") in her best attempt.

  • Shot Put:
    Freshman Natalia Ramirez placed 12th with a mark of 8.06m (26' 5.5"), and teammate Peyton Griffin threw 7.74m (25' 4.75") to finish 16th.

  • Discus:
    Ramirez again led the throwers, taking a strong 7th place with a throw of 31.29m (102' 8"), while Griffin secured 10th with a mark of 26.47m (86' 10"), capping off a productive day for the Rustler throwers.

Golden West's women's team showed depth and determination, with key performances from Lowyn Pereyda, Jaden Campuzano, and Natalia Ramirez leading the charge. With top finishes in both distance and field events, the Rustlers continue to build momentum heading into the heart of the season.
