Fullerton, Calif. - Golden West (24-5) finishes their season as the 2012 State Runner-Up, falling to LA Pierce College.

For the Rustlers, the team that took Pierce to five sets Saturday in the winner's bracket final, all-tourney choice and OH Alyssa Hubbard knocked down 11 kills while setter Jade Gray made 32 assists and two kills. Gray, MB Bethanee Boggs (six kills, two solo blocks), and OH Alicia Utke (eight kills, eight digs, two blocks) were honored all-tournament.

In the first set, Golden West trailed 14-9, but cut it to 19-18. An ace by Pierce's Danielle Hochman ignited a 6-2 run capped by an LA Peirce kill for set point.

The second set saw Pierce go up by as much as 17-12.

In the third set, Golden West showed much of the type of play it exhibited on Saturday as it jumped out to a 9-2 lead. But Pierce chipped away and finally took an 18-17 lead and sealed Golden West's fate.

After remarking about his own teams performancecoach Nabil Mardini said, "I'm in awe to be in such company as Golden West."
