Golden West clobbers Santa Ana

Golden West clobbers Santa Ana

Golden West took only 55 minutes to down Santa Ana by a score of 25-10, 25-7, 25-10 at home to get back in the win column.

Coming off a tough loss to Irvine Valley last Friday, Golden West (13-1, 7-1) came out swinging and dominated Santa Ana (3-13, 0-8) in all facets of the game. Providing the offense for the Rustlers were the ladies in the middle, Drucilla Gauta and Nikol Powers, recording 13 kills and 11 kills respectively. Overall Golden West recorded 46 kills and had an impressive .427 hitting percentage. Also, the Rustlers were solid from the service line recording 11 aces coming from eight different players.

Golden West's back court defense was alive and well as usual, recording a total of 41 digs from eight different players. Jordyn Sanchez was the leader with 9 and Andrea Gonzalez, Taylor Packer and Madison Koci were tied with 6 a piece.

Because of the lopsided scores, Golden West made some personnel changes in order to give some players more court time. Koci was given the white libero jersey at the start the second set and Janessa Brown took over at setter half way through the third set. Both players took advantage of their opportunities as Koci recorded 6 digs and Brown helped with 11 assists.

Santa Ana looked like a disorganized mess and the Rustlers took full advantage of it. The Dons' sloppy play allowed Golden West to go on scoring runs of five or more points on multiple occasions.

This Friday, Nov. 1, Golden West will play Cypress on the road at 7 p.m.  Wednesday, Nov. 6 will be the next Rustlers' home match and it will be against rival Orange Coast at 6 p.m.
