Sweep Sends Rustlers to Second Round

Huntington Beach, Calif. - It was all Rustlers all match as Golden West advances to the second round of the CCCAA So Cal regionals with a score of 25-13, 25-12, 25-10 over Chaffey at home.

Before the start of the match Tyler Davis, Golden West's (17-4) lone sophomore, was recognized for her two years of service with the team. Davis followed up her ceremony with 9 kills, a .381 hitting percentage, 7 digs and a service ace.

Leading the charge on offense was, as usual, Jordyn Sanchez. Sanchez led the team in kills with 19, which brings her overall kill count to 348 and first in the Orange Empire Conference by almost 100.  Also, Sanchez's attacks scored more times than not equaling an impressive .531 hitting percentage.

Drucilla Gauta was another key contributor to the Rustlers' offensive explosion. Gauta recorded 13 kills, good for second on the team, and finished with an even .500 hitting percentage. With her 13 kills, Gauta's season total is 228 and good enough to push her into the top five of the conference's kill leaders.

Defense was solid for Golden West once again. Leading the way was Kelynn Mullally with 14 digs and Sanchez was right behind her with 9. Due to the fantastic display defense this season, both Sanchez and Mullally are high up on the conference's dig charts. Sanchez moves up to eighth with 256 digs and Mullally is just outside the top 10 with 241 digs.

Golden West's next match is at home this Saturday, Nov. 30, against the winner of El Camino College and Bakersfield College. Make sure to check gwathletics.com throughout the week for more details.
