Rustlers Sweep El Camino, Advancing to Third Round

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Despite a late comeback attempt by El Camino, Golden West advanced to the third round of the CCCAA So Cal regional playoffs with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 sweep at home.

Golden West (18-4) sweeps yet another opponent at home to run the sweep count to 11 on the season, and 7 of them coming in Huntington Beach.

Jordyn Sanchez provided the offense once again recording 15 kills and 2 service aces. Sanchez now has 363 kills to her name and her outright lead in the Orange Empire Conference has surpassed 100.

El Camino's (21-5) defense was able to keep the rest of Golden West's offense quiet as the Rustlers recorded only 43 kills and all other players were under 10. Drucilla Gauta was limited to 9 kills and Tyler Davis was only able to record 8.

Despite a slow offense, the Golden West defense was on its toes the entire night. Kelynn Mullally put on a show leading the defense with 14 digs and made some spectacular saves to give the offense a chance to score. Right behind her was defensive and serve specialist Andrea Gonzalez who racked up 10 digs.

Defensive scoring from the front court was present for the first time in a while. Golden West recorded 6 total blocks and stuffed El Camino's hitters plenty of other times. Gauta led the way with 3 and Kaila Ames was right behind her with 2. Sanchez and Nikol Powers got involved recording 1 block a piece.

Golden West will take on Grossmont in El Cajon in round three of the CCCAA So Cal regional playoffs on Dec. 3.
