Rustlers Convincingly Sweep Santa Ana

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West made quick work of Santa Ana sweeping the Dons 25-9, 25-20, 25-12 at home.

The first set was all Golden West (11-4, 3-3) from start to finish. At the first timeout, the Rustlers had a 7-2 lead and it only grew from there. Golden West was on fire at the end earning 12 straight points to reach 24. A balanced attack helped the Rustlers earn a 25-12 win.

Once again, Golden West jumped out to a big lead, but Santa Ana closed the gap thanks to Rustlers' errors. Fortunately, the Rustlers were able to stay focused and pulled out a 25-20 win. Contributing big in this set offensively was Daisy Gonzalez, finishing as the co-leader in kills with 12.

As seen in set one, Golden West made the third set an absolute nightmare for Santa Ana. It seemed like the Rustlers were everywhere and the Dons could not catch a break. This was made possible by Gonzalez and Gabi Nguyen, who also finished with a team-leading 12 kills. Ashley Pettibone became the primary offensive target towards the end putting together a streak of 4 consecutive kills. This led to a comfortable 25-12 win and the sweep.

Golden West had a truly balanced offense. Behind Gonzalez and Nguyen was Pettibone with 8 kills. Yandall had 7 kills and led all blockers with 5. Gonzlaez was right behind her with 4 blocks and Kelynn Mullally provided the help with 38 assists. Patrolling the back row was Nguyen and Madison Koci earning 22 digs apiece.

Friday, Oct. 24 features a crucial match against Riverside at 6 p.m. as the Rustlers will look to develop its first winning streak since starting the season 7-0.
