Golden West Sweeps Santiago Canyon

Huntington Beach, CA – Golden West's women's volleyball team swept its way to a three-game winning streak and back to second place in the Orange Empire Conference standings.

The host Rustlers held off Santiago Canyon in the first set and then cruised to a 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 victory. 

Golden West (13-4, 9-3 OEC) could not shake the visiting Hawks until late in the first set. With the Rustlers leading 18-17, Golden West went on a 7-2 run to close out the set. The Rustlers exerted themselves in the second and third sets to put the match away with relative ease.

In the second set, Golden West jumped out to a 5-1 lead and built the lead to eight at 16-8. The Rustlers went on a 9-4 run to win the set. Golden West led 9-5 in the third set and used an 8-3 run to take a 17-8 lead and cruise to win the set and match.

Golden West was led by sophomore Kate Stanjevich, who had a team-high 16 assists, with three kills and nine digs. Sophomore Cassidy Paperny had a team-high 17 kills, with eight digs and a block. Sophomore Baileigh Graham had a team-high 18 digs with an assist. Freshman Jasmine Gonzalez (Long Beach Millikan High) had five kills, 12 digs and two blocks and sophomore Megan Wiggins had 10 assists and four digs

The Rustlers play host to Riverside College at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6.
