Rustlers Shut Down Mesa in 3

Huntington Beach, CA – Golden West's women's volleyball team opened the 2016 California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Championships in dominating fashion.

The host Rustlers held off San Diego Mesa College in the first set and then cruised to a 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 first-round victory. 

Golden West (17-5), ranked #7 in the South, played without sophomore Cassidy Paperny, who dislocated her ankle in the season finale at Cypress and will miss the postseason.  

The Rustlers got a standout effort from sophomore setter Megan Wiggins, who posted a team-high 27 assists, with five kills and seven digs. Freshman Jasmine Gonzalez (Long Beach Millikan High) led Golden West with 10 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Baileigh Graham had a team-high 16 digs with two assists and sophomore Kate Stanjevich had nine kills, six digs and four aces. 

The Rustlers play at #2 seed L.A. Pierce on Saturday, Nov. 26. The winner of Saturday's match advances to the state tournament.
