Huntington Beach, CA - Golden West women's volleyball team had a quick, yet impressive showing Friday in its 2017-18 home opener.
The Rustlers only needed 75 minutes to sweep visiting Cerritos College, 30, in a nonconference match. Freshman Keilani Pearson (Huntington Beach High) had 11 kills, 10 digs and an assist to lead Golden West to a 25-11, 25-12, 25-16 victory.
Sophomore Ashleigh Atsaros had a team-high 12 kills with three digs and sophomore Jatyauna Newburn added nine kills with 10 digs for the Rustlers (2-3). Freshman Erica Cantley (Cypress High) paced Golden West with a team-high 20 assists and three digs, sophomore Akimi Fujikura recorded nine assists and four digs, sophomore Amanda Sosa had a team-high 16 digs with six aces and sophomore Kayelyn Nunez added six digs and six aces.
The Rustlers continue their season at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6 with a match at home against San Diego City College.
