Atsaros and Uale Combine for 27 Kills in Win

Huntington Beach, CA­ - On the heels of a two-match losing streak that saw them fall from the California Community College Athletic Association Top 25 and out of second place in the Orange Empire Conference standings, the Golden West women's volleyball team needed a stop.

The Rustlers got the course correction they so badly needed Wednesday night with a hard-fought victory over visiting Fullerton College with a four-set victory lasting two hours.

Golden West won 28-26, 24-26, 25-14, 26-24, to end its mini-losing streak and remain tied with Cypress for third place in the conference standings, a game behind Saddleback.

The Rustlers (9-9, 6-3) were led by sophomores Cherene Uale and Ashleigh Atsaros. Uale had 12 kills, eight digs and a block and Atsaros had a team-high 15 kills with two digs.

Freshman Erica Cantley (Cypress High) had a team-high 42 assists, with nine digs and a kill, freshman Keilani Pearson (Huntington Beach High) accounted for seven kills and nine digs, freshman Holly Hennessy (Marina High) had six kills and four digs, freshman Eden VanWaardenburg (Marina High) had nine kills and sophomores Amanda Sosa and Kayelyn Nunez had 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

Golden West visits Santa Ana College on Friday before returning home to host Santiago Canyon College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
