Cantley's 22 Assists Leads Rustlers in 3-0 Sweep

Huntington Beach, CA – With five games left in the 2017 regular season, the Golden West women's volleyball team is building momentum for a postseason run.

The Rustlers needed less than an hour to dispatch visiting Santiago Canyon College in a three-set sweep in an Orange Empire Conference match on Wednesday night.

Golden West won 25-21, 25-8, 25-7, to remain tied with Cypress College for second place in the conference standings. The Rustlers (11-9, 8-3) extended their winning streak to three matches, won for the seventh time in their past 10 matches and remained tied with Cypress College for second place in the conference standings.

Sophomore Ashleigh Atsaros had a team-high seven kills with three digs, an assist and a block, freshman Erica Cantley (Cypress High) tallied four kills, a team-high 22 assists and three digs to lead Golden West.

Sophomore Cherene Uale had six kills and six digs, freshman Holly Hennessy (Marina High) chipped in five kills and eight digs, freshman Eden VanWaardenburg (Marina High) added six kills and a block and sophomores Amanda Sosa and Kayelyn Nunez had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Rustlers visit Irvine Valley College, the top-ranked team in the state, on Friday before returning home to host Riverside College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
