VanWaardenburg's Team High 19 kills Leads Rustlers to Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Golden West women's volleyball team got back on a winning path and stayed within striking distance of second place in the Orange Empire Conference standings with four-set victory over visiting Riverside College on Wednesday.

The Rustlers, ranked No. 24 in the state in the latest California Community College Athletic Association poll, dropped the visiting Tigers, 25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, in a match that lasted well over two hours.

Golden West (12-10, 9-4) is in fourth place in the conference – a game behind Cypress and Saddleback, with three matches left in the regular season.

Freshman Eden VanWaardenburg (Marina High) had a team-high 19 kills, sophomore Ashleigh Atsaros had 10 kills, two digs and a block and freshman Holly Hennessy (Marina High) added six kills, 10 digs and two service aces to lead the Rustlers.

Freshman Erica Cantley (Cypress High) tallied two kills, a team-high 39 assists, with 14 digs and sophomore Cherene Uale had eight kills, 10 digs, two aces and a block. Sophomores Kayelyn Nunez and Amanda Sosa had 15 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Rustlers visit No. 21 Orange Coast on Friday and No. 18 Cypress on Nov. 8 before returning home to host No. 14 Saddleback College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 in the team's regular-season finale.
