Rustler's Drop Season Finale at Home on Sophomore Night

Huntington Beach, CA – The Golden West women's volleyball team fell a few points Wednesday short of its bid to finish third in the Orange Empire Conference and possibly host the first round of the regional playoffs.

The Rustlers lost to visiting Saddleback in four sets, 27-25, 17-25, 14-25, 19-25, in a match that lasted just under two hours and honored the six outgoing sophomores.

Golden West (13-12, 10-6) finished the regular season in fourth place in the conference – two games behind Saddleback.

Sophomore Cherene Uale had a team-high 15 kills with 10 kills and two services aces and freshman Erica Cantley (Cypress High) tallied three kills, a team-high 30 assists, with 11 digs to lead the Rustlers.

Sophomore Ashleigh Atsaros contributed eight kills and three digs, sophomore Kayelyn Nunez had a team-high 15 digs with four assists and freshman Eden VanWaardenburg (Marina High) had a five kills, and two digs.

With the end of the regular season, Golden West will await to see who it is paired with in the first round of the regional playoffs. The first round is set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
