W Volleyball: Falls in Five Set Thriller

Huntington Beach, Calif. - An unranked Golden West women's volleyball team gave the #22 ranked Orange Coast College Pirates a five set thriller that could have gone in favor of the host.

The Rustlers (3-6, 1-3) fell in five sets 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 16-25, 14-16 but learned a lot about themselves against rival Orange Coast (12-1, 3-1.) Golden West dropped a tough first set 20-25 that could've gone their way if they limited some of the mistakes.

They returned to the court after that first set looking and playing determined, as they were able to win the next two sets to take a 2-1 set lead. Orange Coast was able to rebound in the fourth set to even the match at 2-2 and force a deciding fifth set. The Rustlers had a chance to close it out with a late lead 14-13, but the Pirates rattled off three unanswered points to claim victory.

Sophomore Holly Hennessy led the Ruslters with 11 kills and Freshman Madison Holmes was right behind her with 9 kills. Setter Sophia Peterson led the Rustlers with an astounding 73 assists.

NEXT: Golden West will host Cypress College on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6pm.
