W Volleyball: Botana and Emil Record 12 Kills Each in Big Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The match may have started off a bit slow again Golden West but after dropping the first set they swept the next three sets for a 3-1 win over the Cypress College Chargers.

After dropping the first set 25-19 the Rustlers (7-2, 1-2) took charge in the second set as they volleyed well forcing Cypress (6-3, 2-1) to make the mistakes. Three Rustlers ended up with double digit digs making it tough for the Chargers to reset and attack. Golden West took all the momentum after winning the second set 25-23.

Setter Shayna Johnson led the Rustlers with 31 assists and chipped in 15 digs in helping win the third set 25-20. Golden West stayed in control of the set thanks to the 20 digs performance of Madison Holmes.

With all the momentum heading into the fourth set, the Rustlers built a 7-2 lead early. Sierra Emil and Abagail Botana both paced the Rustlers with 12 kills apiece to keep the match just out of reach for the Chargers to force a fifth and deciding set.

Golden West will be back in action Friday, October 4th for a 6pm match when they will host Santa Ana College.
