W Volleyball: Swept by the Top Team in the State

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The women's volleyball team hosted the top ranked Irvine Valley College squad on Friday night in a 3-0 sweep and second straight OEC loss.

The team battled in all three sets as they gave the Lasers fits on some runs during the match but just couldn't pull away far enough to claim one. Sophomore Madison Holmes and freshman Sierra Emil led the Rustlers with nine kills apiece while Holmes also led the Rustlers with 14 digs. Setter Shayna Johnson provided 27 assists on the night to help her teammates total 29 kills and .220 kill percentage.

The Rustlers had their best shot at winning a set in the second as they held a late lead 19-17, but the Lasers focused in and rattled off a 8-1 run to take a 2-0 match lead on their way to a 25, 17, 25-20, and 25-18 sweep.

Golden West will be back in action on Wednesday, October 16th as they travel to Fullerton College for a 7pm start.
