Women's Water Polo Is On Beach Clean Up

Long Beach, Calif. - Women's water polo finished No. 1 in the Battle at the Beach Tournament over the weekend. The Rustlers improve to 21-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

The women first met Cypress in the water where they defeated the Chargers 16-4. Sophomore Melissa Bergesen tallied 4 goals, along with Brigitta Games, who also chipped in 4 of her own. Melissa Thorn tended goal for the Rustlers and with 7 saves, kept Cypress out of the net for most of the game.

Next, Sierra College took their chance at defeating the Rustles. The game was physical, totaling 24 ejections for the teams. Golden West quickly got on the scoreboard and swam away with the victory ending the game 16-6.

Saturday, the Rustlers defeated Mt. SAC 20-8. Alexandria Loveless found the back of the net 5 times for Golden West and Thorn proved a valuable asset in the goal with 6 saves.

The final game of the tournament came down to Riverside and Golden West. The Rustlers set the tone for the game, methodically working in the water and increasing their lead. By end of the second quarter, Golden West nearly doubled Riverside's score 15-8. The Rustlers would allow Riverside to score once more putting the final score at 17-9.

The women return to conference play Wednesday, October 30th at 3:00pm, where they will play their last conference game at home against Riverside.
