Women Own the No. 1 SoCal Title

Women Own the No. 1 SoCal Title

Cerritos, Calif. - The Rustlers routed Riverside City College 10-8 for their back to back SoCal Championship Title. This is the 6th regional Championship that the women have taken home; and with the win, Golden West secures the No. 1 seed into the State Championships.

The 2013 team quickly took down each of their opponents as they competed for the top spot in the south over the weekend. First Golden West defeated LA Pierce 14-7. Lauren Vosseler lead all scoring with 6 goals, a personal best for the sophomore. Next, in the semifinal game, the Rustlers dominated LA Valley who fell 15-2.

It all came down to another meeting with rival Riverside, who Golden West defeated for the OEC Championships 12-8 just a week prior. The Rustlers methodically responded goal for goal with the Tigers, never allowing them to take the advantage after their first point. Leading the offense in scoring for Golden West was Ella Sherman who caught the back of the net 3 times, finishing the weekend with 7 goals overall. Alexandria Loveless, Gabi Mantellato and Vosseler chipped in 2 goals each and Megan Milian had one of her own for the championship win.

The women now focus on taking on the No. 2 team from the north Sierra College, who they defeated 16-6 earlier in the season. Golden West will be in the water at Riverside City College Friday, November 22nd at 2:15pm.
