Rustlers Advance to State Championship

Rustlers Advance to State Championship

Riverside, Calif. - Women's Water Polo defeated Sierra College 12-5 and are just one game away from a repeat of the State Championship. The Rustlers continue their undefeated season as they look to their 8th State Championship. The women have won 57 games in a row over the last two seasons and plan to take Riverside City College down for the third time this year.

A six-goal second quarter by Golden West College turned a close semifinal game into a blowout as the Rustlers rolled to a 12‐5 win over Sierra.  Holding a narrow 2- 1 lead after one quarter thanks to two goals by Brigitta Games, Golden West put the game out of reach as Melissa BergesenAlexandria Loveless, and Gabi Montellato all scored twice during the 6-0 run.

Games would score twice more in the third quarter to lead her team in scoring for the playoffs, with Loveless chipping in one of her own in the third. Samantha McElreath found the back of the net in the 4th to finish the scoring for the Rustlers, advancing them to the Championship game on Saturday.

The women will face off with their Orange Empire rivals, Riverside City College for the CCCAA Championship at 1:15pm on Saturday, Nov. 23rd at Riverside City College.
