Women's Water Polo Take Down The Pirates

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West (15-6, 4-2) women's water polo team sank the Orange Coast Pirates (11-11, 3-3) in a tense 6-5 victory. The two teams exchanged the leader position multiple times over the course of the game, and headed into the fourth quarter with the score knotted 5-5. Sophomore Olivia Romo found the back of the net for the game winning goal with the Pirates unable to respond.

Leading the scoring for the Rustlers was Raney Remma scoring twice in the first quarter and again in the third. Romo chipped in two goals of her own, and Angelyse Sanchez netted one. Keeping the Pirates out of the net was seasoned goalie Melissa Thorn. Thorn's non stop effort kept the Rustler defense in the game and ultimately was the deciding factor in the victory.

Golden West was edged out by Orange Coast earlier in the month in a 8-7 loss during The Battle of the Beach. But this conference win put the Rustlers in prime position going into the Orange Empire Conference Championship game.

The women will face off with Cypress College on Friday, Nov. 7th at 10:20am for the first round of the conference championships.
