Women’s Water Polo Opens 2016 Season HOT

Sacramento, Calif. – The women's water polo program starts the 2016 season red hot offensively scoring double digits in each of the first five matches of the season under first year head coach Matt Flesher.

 Golden West (5-0) took on American River (1-3) on Thursday September 8th, and secured a 15-5 victory. The Rustlers then set their sights on Las Positas College (0-3) on Friday September 9th and chewed them up for 20-1 victory. The women quickly turned around to play their second match of the day on Friday against Santa Rosa (0-3) who hung around early but eventually submitted defeat 19-5.

On Saturday the Rustlers continued their winning ways with a tough fought 10-7 victory over San Joaquin Delta (3-2). Golden West held a slim lead after one quarter 2-1 as April Alvarez and Josie Miller found the back of the net. They would extend their lead at halftime 5-1 as Alvarez, Riley Beemer, and Julie Luna would each net a goal. The second half certainly was filled with most of the action as San Joaquin Delta was able to go on a scoring run that would tie the match at 7-7 mid way through the fourth quarter. But the Rustler offense responded by scoring the matches final three goals to secure the victory 10-7.

Golden West would then close out the weekend with a 13-3 victory over American River to cap off an impressive offensive weekend. The Rustlers would outscore their opponents 67 to 21.
