Rustlers Continue to Stay Hot in Riverside Tournament

Riverside, Calif. – Golden West took down all five teams in the Riverside City College Women's Water Polo tournament over the weekend.

Game 1, Golden West (10-0) opened the tournament on Friday morning with a victory over Cerritos (5-2) 13 to 8. The Rustlers built a solid lead by halftime 7 to 1 thanks to goals by Riley Beemer, Julie Luna (2), Evelyn Wang, April Storm Alvarez (2), and Isabella Magno. The second half was a little more balanced as Cerritos would trade goals with Golden West the rest of the way.

Game 2- The Rustlers matched their halftime score from the mornings game to lead Citrus College (3-3) 7 to 1 at halftime. The defense stayed dominant for all four quarters and surrendered only four second half goals to earn the 14 to 5 victory. April Storm Alvarez lead the Rustler offense with five goals and goalie Brooke Kibel recorded three saves on eight shots 

Game 3- On Saturday morning Golden West opened against Long Beach City College (3-3, 2-0) with a win 11 to 5. The ladies were in for a tough first half against the Knights as they were tied 2 to 2 at the end of the first quarter. The Rustlers April Storm Alvarez found her rhythm as she netted three goals in the second quarter to help gain a slim 7 to 4 halftime lead. Golden West made some halftime adjusts on defense to tighten some shooting gaps to hold Long Beach to one goal in the second half to earn the victory 11-5.

Game 4- Rounding out the tournament, Golden West would beat Chaffey College (2-4, 2-0) handily 14 to 4. Five Rustlers would score multiple goals, leading the way was Isabella Magno with three goals. 

Next: The Rustlers will host Fullerton College on Wednesday 9/21 for a 3PM start.
