Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West's cross country teams hosted their first invitational of the 2012 season on Friday Sept. 21 at Central Park in Huntington Beach, CA.
Sixteen teams and 152 runners from surrounding colleges participated in the 5K event for the women. The women of the running Rustlers finished 8th in the event, with a total of 263 points and a team time of 1:50:10. Cynthia Torres (Santa Ana, CA/Los Amigos) finished 30th in the event with a time of 20:39 and an average of a 6:39 mile time. The second fastest time for the ladies was Arianna Condon (Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar HS) with a time of 21:05 and an average of 6:48/mile.
A total of 156 men from 15 college teams ran in the Men's Invitational 4-mile race. Golden West placed 12th with 327 points and a team time of 2:00:38. Rustler Chase Calkins (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina) ran the fastest for the Golden West men's team with a time of 22:40 and an average 5:40 mile. Brandon Ngo finished the race in 24:01 with an average mile time of 6:00.
The next event for the cross country teams will be October 5th at Irvine Park.
